The song "Un joli conte" (A nice tale) to listen in full on Youtube.

The soundtrack of the Espérance Pham Thái Lan's short "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come) is entirely
original, based on a song "Un joli conte" (A nice tale) which describes contemporary yet timeless protagonists, on a modern fairy tale where the words play each other with some poetry and a bit surreal.

(The cat sneaks through the eye of the needle, A nice tale...)

Program in September

September is looking good. Editing-Music-Mixing-Magic calibration. An ultra thin appetizing menu.
Quand le jour se lève
All rights reserved - La B.O.

Now a few words about the editing, the first step.
Olivier Aufauvre who has edited the teaser of  "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come), is the editor for "Quand le jour se lève"(When day breaks). He and I are working in a complementary way, it allows us to move more quickly and in the same direction. Yet sometimes we hesitate on certain choices, suddenly everyone argues and ultimately it is much easier to make the best decision. Anyway the film will last about 11 minutes, as planned :-)

News in full heat wave :-)

Hello everyone.

La BO considered travel to festivals around the world to show "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come) and talks about it at the maximum; it is a process that takes to seaside destinations like Palm Springs rather than 656 feet 21⁄64 inches from home. A nice program with stops to make green everybody, that's what La B.O. intended.

However La B.O. decided in parallel to expand its catalog this year by starting producing an another short again called "When day breaks" (Quand le jour se lève) written by Espérance Pham Thái Lan who will direct it.

The preparation has already begun. What we can tell you already, that's the name of the main actress: Isabelle, who is in brief won-der-ful.

It is for you to guess which one. To help you a little bit, know that this is not IsabellA Rosselini. This could be Isabelle Adjani, Isabelle Carré, Isabelle Huppert, Isabelle Mergault,  Isabelle Nanty,  Isabelle Pasco... It's anyone's guess.

Pourquoi avoir réalisé "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come) ?

Vous avez consacré du temps pour "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come).

A good fortnight before the festival of Cannes 2015, following an exclusive interview with Espérance Pham Thai Lan.

In the title of your film, one rather expects "Plus dur sera la chute" (harder will be the fall) why did you chose the adjective beautiful instead of hard?
It's more interesting to use quotes, regular expressions, known and turn them to the benefit of the stories I invented and the title is an opening for this exercise. Beautiful incites attracting visual pleasure, aesthetic or auditory, beautiful can also highlight something remarkable for greatness. As for fall, it means an action of falling, a slope of a roof or part ending a story. The whole film is based on the principle that the sequences have a double, triple or even more meanings and inevitably lead the audience on different routes.

What is the synopsis ?
In two sentences- An improbable encounter between a disconcerting woman and a worker who are totally unalike, at least on the face of it. Puzzle pieces are set up with a surprising end, detectable conditionally to discover the right clues.-

Do you have, if any, taken risks for the film?
Yes: unlike other short films, I edited the film to serve the narration as a piece of news, I did not want to make technical prowess as can be seen for example in "Partie de poker" (Poker Hand). I worked with an exceptionally small team because the sets (scaffolding and public hospital) and I have been on several fronts. The paradox, I have very little delegated but I let the chiefs' key posts undoubtedly more freedom than usual provided so long they meet the specifications that I imposed with the agreement of LA B.O..

You wrote the lyrics of the song "Un joli conte" (A nice tale) that everybody listen to it in the end credits. How do you respond to the enthusiasm it brings to people?
Music by Nathan Symes has much to do. The alliance between his notes and my words form a whole that sticks perfectly to the mind that I wanted to give the film. When we compared the great renowned artists such as Serge Gainsbourg, Benjamin Biolay, Tom Novembre, Arthur H, Alain Bashung, Paolo Conte ou or when the soundtrack evokes for some those of the Quentin Tarantino's films like Pulp fiction, we are every time very surprised, we had a lot of fun and we like it because these artists and the director belong to our references.

Why do you mention a cat in the song? There are none in the film. Is it a symbol or a clue?
All rights reserved - Espérance PHAM THAI LAN

This animal was present during a part of the shooting and was a model of discretion. I paid a small tribute to it, it was our mascot.

Why have you directed "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come)?
This film gives me the opportunity to juggle with types (the drama, suspense and thriller) using, for example, certain stereotyped  or universal sentences, however equipped with hidden meanings unsaid. As a game, the audience are thus led to weave their own interpretation on the characters and the course of the story, from true or false clues of where lively debates are predictable after the screenings. I felt like the audience are not only consumers, but they are encouraged to think about what they saw and heard.

How do you get the inspiration?
Life usually is my main source, news, for example, is made of a fishpond, actionpacked events that develop my imagination, the work of my colleagues stimulates my creativity, I am sensitive to the current climate.

What is your next objective?
I want to follow through the path of "Plus belle sera la chute" (The most beautiful they come), this film makes its way as far as possible, be released, with a little luck, a large scale, in short it is seen by the most people. I do not feel like it keeps to itself, stays in a drawer.

You have devoted your time  to "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come). Is not too hard now have to move on?
Not really because I can devote myself to my new projects that are in various stages, some are in the state of origin, I have them in my head and it remains to write them, some are more advanced, I try to show them to be known in order to direct and shoot them in the best conditions.

What makes you the most forward?
The desire to write screenplays and then direct them so much that it becomes vital for me.

Give us a word that you like?
Currently, it is "RESPECT".

A film trailer that was tailor-made for Espérance...

Olivier Aufauvre, film editor-graphic artist in advertising and institutional, worked with directors such as advertising Daniel Ablin and Jean-Marc Gosse. At the same time he works on shorts produced by "La Boîte" and especially on "Le syndrome de Stockholm" and "Julie et ses Jules" on which he made all the special effects. He also participated in the structuring of the Pr Rugby series, short program on rugby.
When Espérance asked him to make a film trailer for "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come), Olivier agrees.  He made a film trailer that was tailor-made for her in record time. La B.O. and CréaT join together to say: well Done!

The Sacre-Coeur in the background.

Marie-France M'Bala also met thanks to Streetbook, presents only one canvas she painted after seeing "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come).
All rights reserved - Marie-France M'Bala
She has the sense of detail and borrows uncharted path by planting her set near the Sacre-Coeur, identifiable in the short provided to watch it several times, which is well in history capital: Jennifer and Gerard, the leading characters of the film, meet exceptionally, at the Paris rooftops.
However, she joined the other exhibitors, by painting of the important elements in symbols:
a red flower  (for Jennifer/Nathalie Mann),  a low wall (building site where Gerard/Sylvain Charbonneau works), a crack (a shared ill-being), blood (fall)... that reveal tthis artist-painter's vision about the short. Thank you Marie-France to share it with so much pleasure.

Yohanna Bouvetier draws elderly, wrinkled, she also creates white masks hanging from threads as if they were levitating.

All rights reserved-La B.O.
However, she illustrated her perception of "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come)
via a little structure she staged by real things, in the same mind as the drawers belonging to the collective "Les chats pelés". Remember jackets of the band "Les têtes raides"more girly,
Like, for example, a red high heel mule placed on a mysterious round box referring to Jennifer's shoes (Nathalie Mann) filmed in travelling-and-pan shot in the opening credits,
concrete pieces of all sizes suggest a site, the world in which Gerard moves (Sylvain Charbonneau)
and providing a clap posed in front, an alllusion to the shooting.
Yohanna seems to imply that these three accessories could be the key words of the short. To discuss, we should approach people who could see it at the preview in "La Maison des Auteurs" in Paris, February 6, 2015 and if you want to add your opinion in the comments, do not deprive yourself, quite the opposite!

A traditional citation in Paris and its famous skyline...

I was surprised facing Elodie Vialle's painting, incomplete tune with my film.
At first glance it looks like an assembly of vertical banded friezes. Harmonious colors, flower patterns coexist happily, bringing freshness as a festive ode.
In the background, the top of several stone buildings are aligned, a traditional citation in Paris and its famous skyline, where the blue sky around them, a set similar to that of "Plus belle sera la chute"(The more beautiful they come).

Plus belle sera la chute
All rights reserved-Elodie Vialle
Black touchs are cleverly placed on a light gray stylized staging: there is a cat found in the Espérance and Nathan's song of the end credits "Le chat se faufile par le chas de l'aiguille Un joli conte....", a pump, feminine accessory par excellence of a contemporary romance belonging to a woman, we see her straight silhouette, unlike that of a man falling into the void, evoking Jennifer and Gérard' meeting.
The result of this composition ensues from a myriad of strokes beautifully executed with skill and attention to detail that are recurring in Elodie's works.
In any case, it was one of the showpieces of the exhibition of the preview of "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come) of 6 February 2015. That would have been a shame to miss without seeing it.
La B.O. and CréaT immediately noticed her talent and good!

Mirage, the Street art is on the screen.

Jerry KAN, La B.O.
Jerry Kan
At the exhibition at the preview of "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come) February 6, 2015 , the Mirage's working was exposed to the left of the room. The work he made after viewing the film, is Icarus falling into a bottomless pit, or into the darkness is to light, illustrating the fall, word included in the title of the short. The eye follows Icarus: we fly in the space between shades of green but also navigate between waters because the mythical character is framed by two compasses, navigation tools used as a reference to a play on words between the two main characters of the film.

Mirage does not hesitate to show another painting more matter of fact and very close tones, which represents two boxers, one attacking his adversary (who is on the defensive). Both athletes are wearing boxing gloves colors orange and pale green. This choice is it due to the verbal sparring between Jennifer and Gerard of "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come) punctuated by a military helmet on which is written "Born to Kill " as Mirage set down right next ?
Plus belle sera la chute La B,O, CréaT
All rights reserved - Mirage

As to soften the struggle between two sports, Mirage then shows a very zen table with a Buddha and a pink flower. Could it be to get the message that the end of "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come) is positive ? To  be clear in your  own mind about it, you should ask him directly.

Mirage offered late night one of his pictures (showing Icarus) to Espérance, who was deeply touched by his generosity. For her, Mirage is not a mirage, he is indeed real, they are both met through Streetbook.

Day-5 compared to the preview of Espérance Pham Thai Lan's short "Plus belle sera la chute" (The more beautiful they come) at La Maison des Auteurs at 7 rue Ballu 75009 Paris.

We already sold out!

A collective of artists exhibition " Streetbook " who created a work inspired by the short will take place simultaneously. The artists will be there to discuss their approach and aesthetic echo that this work has resulted in them. This should be very interesting with the eyes of artists and audience ...
